Al Jisr Arizona-Yemen Exchange

Participating universities in Yemen

October 1, 2021 to July 31, 2022

Al Jisr Arizona-Yemen Exchange project involved 40 students and four faculty members from public universities in Yemen (University of Aden, Hadramout University, Taiz University and University of Saba Region) and 30 students and six faculty members from the University of Arizona and Arizona Student Media.

The Al Jisr exchange is on the platforms Slack and Zoom and involves trainings, weekly audio dispatches, an Al Jisr (The Bridge) photo gallery and web page hosted on The Daily Wildcat site, a monthly podcast and coaching among students about collaborative work. Themes of the project focus on culture and several journalistic and media topics including media ethics, representation and belonging; media innovation, entrepreneurship, startups and concept development; and disinformation and information security.

Students pitched Arizona-Yemen collaborative projects and worked with a journalist coach each month on publishing work. The project webpage hosts the photo gallery, monthly podcast and 19 student projects.
