Soto organized this trip for her students to develop experience reporting on border issues and become acquainted with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP). Soto said this was the first field trip she organized for the University of Arizona Journalism students.

CBP is the governmental organization that survey's our Southern border and "is one of the world's largest law enforcement organizations and is charged with keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. while facilitating lawful international travel and trade," according to the CBP website.

Student journalists who plan to cover the border after graduation will find it imperative to be familiar with CBP and how the agency communicates with the public. As seen in Soto's collection of photos, students recorded the trip for semester projects.
