Fijian journalists visit School of Journalism during U.S. trip

Dr. Jeannine Relly hosted eight Fijian journalists at the University of Arizona on April 11, 2025.

Eight journalists from Fiji visited the University of Arizona School of Journalism for a roundtable discussion with faculty and students on April 11.

Professor Jeannine Relly arranged the discussion, which covered topics such as censorship and the importance of access to information, through the Center for Border & Global Journalism.

The group’s stop at the university was part of a larger visit to the United States made possible through the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The goal of the visit was to provide the international journalists an opportunity to observe the practices and standards of news media in the U.S. 

The visiting journalists were:

  • Akuila Cama, deputy manager of news and sports at Fijian Broadcasting Corporation
  • Regi Chandar, head of news and sports at Fijilive
  • Makereta Komai, editor-in-chief at PACNEWS and manager/editor at Pacific News Association (PINA)
  • Stella Taoi, news manager at Fiji Television Limited
  • Stanley Simpson, director at Mai TV and general secretary of the Fijian Media Association
  • Vijay Narayan, manager for news and sports at Communications Fiji Ltd (CFL)
  • Rosi Tamani, acting publisher for the Fiji Sun
  • Fred Wesley, editor-in-chief of The Fiji Times
