Dr. Jeannine Relly moderated the 2nd Central Asia Media Web Symposium on topics relating to media education and media literacy in Central Asia.

 

Bios of the speakers:

 

‘Building professional capacity and supporting institutions that support freedom of expression”.

Karlyga Myssayeva, PhD, Associate Professor, Vice-Dean Faculty of Journalism, al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU). She was a Fulbright scholar at Ohio University in 2016. Her research focuses on what the influence of social media on Society. As a researcher, she presented more than 30 research papers at international conferences in the USA, Canada, Russia, France, Poland, China, and in Central Asia countries.

 

“Media education in Uzbekistan”

Nargis Kosimova, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Faculty of Media and communication, Uzbekistan State World Languages University. Her research focuses on development of media and media education in Uzbekistan.

 

“The style of aggressive speech in journalism”

Galiya Ibrayeva, Professor, al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU). She is a former dean of the School of Journalism at Al Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU). Doctor of Political Science, Journalist, Director of the MDP/Global Classroom Program and author more than 30 books. Her research focuses on Media and Media education problems in Kazakhstan. Also, she recently published book about “Immersive journalism”

 

Dilyara Nuken, 1st course Master student, al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU). She is studied in the Master program of the International Journalism

 

“Informal Media Education: New Approaches and Opportunities in the Digital Age”.

Jazgul Ibraimova, Research Coordinator at Institute for War and Peace Reporting, Kyrgyzstan. She has 6 years of experience in media monitoring and content analysis of media. She worked as a production manager for documentary films, social videos and commercial videos, and as a coordinator in a number of local and international projects. Jazgul is the editor of the IWPR research on Online News Consumption in Central Asia.

 

“Distribution of content of mass media in Uzbekistan through Telegram: type of channels, audience coverage and forms of multimedia”.

Dr. Nozima Muratova, Associate professor, PhD, Head of Science & Innovation Uzbekistan, Journalism and Mass Communication University, Uzbekistan. She is an author of the book “Fake news: disinformation in the media : A guide for students of journalism and mass communications”. Her research focuses on media literacy and influence of social media on society.
